A Bear With Pants

A Bear With Pants is the story of a young bear with a loving family but not much confidence. One of his legs is shorter than the other, so he walks with a limp, which gets him picked on at school – especially by the mean Snake with a Scarf.

Despite his challenges, A Bear with Pants makes plenty of friends, but what will he do about the bullies?

A Bear With Pants

By Adam Warren

A Bear With Pants is a heart warming tale about a special young boy with some very unique qualities that is forced to deal with a hard situation. The story takes you to a world where everyone is different from you and I but faces the same challenges we all face at one time or another. Bullies and best friends, A Bear with Pants will paint an uplifting perspective on an age old issue and remind us all that our differences are the best part of who we are.

A Bear with Pants finds a friend in Rhino with a Sweater Vest. Soon, word of bullying spreads around the school, and the teachers announce that all students must look out for each other, regardless of what they wear, how they walk, or even how they comb their hair.

Despite his challenges, A Bear with Pants makes plenty of friends, but what will he do about the bullies?

Adam Warren - Author

Born in Queens, New York in 1971, Adam is a first time author. He has three siblings, two brothers and a sister and is a graduate of South West Texas State University, with a BFA in Theater.

Adam co-wrote,co-produced and co-starred in the independent feature film RHINOS. The movie won Best Feature at the 1999 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival, as well as the Runner Up Best Feature at the 1998 Flagstaff film festival. It went on to be the “Midnight Movie” at (very new at that time) Alamo Draft House in Austin, Texas. Now CEO and Co-Founder of the Advertising Agency, OpenJar Concepts Inc., with partner, Reno Renaldo, Adam still works to find time to be creative. The company often drives attention to charitable causes throughout the community of Temecula, Murrieta and Menifee. Giving back through donations or actions is what drives this author. Adam believes that teaching right from wrong at the earliest possible opportunity of a child’s life is a gift he wanted to use this book to give.

Most important to Adam is his family. He lives in the beautiful community of Temecula, CA with his wife and their two daughters. The girls are why the sensitive topic of bullying was chosen although Adam is no stranger to bullying. As a child, he recalls being chased and even having a rock thrown at his face knocking out one of his front teeth. Both of his girls have dealt with bullying during their academic life and may see more of it before they are done.

Driven by creativity, Adam has tried movie making to music production. The idea of telling a story to children with creatures in various types of clothing is a new frontier for Mr. Warren. He is already dreaming of the next book.

Zack Arnett - Illustrator

When I was little I wanted to be a jet pilot but an eight year old can’t fly a jet so I decided to draw one, and so it began. Comic books were a huge part of my life growing up, they taught me how to imagine and dream in color, I learned that with the right illustration you could tell a tale worth a thousand words. When I got into my teens I started listening to a lot of 90’s hip hop which got me into the explosive culture of graffiti. I fell in love with the playful dimensions and ability to express myself without boundary while allowing the streets to be my gallery.

After a run in with the law, I decided to keep my work on paper. I shifted my focus to music and began producing and performing all over the world, all the while creating art here and there which caught the eye of “A Bear with Pants” author Adam Warren, who reached out and asked if I would illustrate a book him and his children had written, the rest is right in front of you.

A Bear with Pants by Adam C. Warren is a fun children's book about a young bear called Bear with Pants. One of his legs is longer than the other, and so he walks with a limp. He is starting school, and so he gets on the school bus. On the school bus, he sees Snake with a Scarf, who hisses at him the entire way. At school, he waits for everyone to get off the bus before he limps off. But Snake with a Scarf is waiting for him, and trips him. Because of that, Bear with Pants is late for class and gets in trouble. Later on, he meets a butterfly, who teaches him to be courageous. The next day, Snake with a Scarf is waiting for him to get off the bus again. Will Bear with Pants be courageous enough to stand up for himself?

I really enjoyed reading A Bear with Pants by Adam C. Warren. The book is very well written and descriptive. The story teaches the importance of standing up for not only yourself, but others around you, as well as teaching that bullying isn't cool. The characters are all very likeable, because Bear with Pants is willing to forgive, and Snake with a Scarf shows that anyone can change. Many people will be able to relate to this book, because many people have been bullied. The pictures by Zack Arnett are well drawn, and clearly depict each scene and each character. I liked that all of the animals wore clothes. The story is very creative. I would recommend this to all young readers.

Fantastic and timely message conveyed in a fun, imaginative way. Illustrations are beautiful and I absolutely loved the creativity of the character names. With empathy declining in our society, this is a great book to read and discuss as a family. Although it is obviously a book directed at younger children, the values of inclusion and kindness span all age groups. Definitely recommend! - Tracy de Encio

What a fun book! The first thing that caught my eye was the artwork, and that it was about bears - I love bears! But it was story that really captured my heart. I love how the kids learn to come together and to believe in themselves (and their own unique talents!) to deal with the bullies at school. I got the impression this was written by a loving parent for their own kids and I'm glad they decided to share it with the rest of us! Definitely worth adding to your library! - Kelly Flynn

I highly recommend this book to all families with school age children. Being different and dealing with bullies can be a real challenge for kids and their parents. I read this book with my kids when one of their friends was dealing with bullying issues. The lessons learned enabled them to help stick up for the friend and change the interactions. This story lays out the issues in a way that is relatable. The art is also fantastic and brings the story to life. A must have on your kid's bookshelf! - Matt Becker
